If you are a sneaker head just like I am, then you know the importance of keeping your shoes clean. We always want our sneakers to look fresh and new, just like the day we took them out of the box. Especially when it comes to white shoes, we all know its a whole different ball game because they are a dirt magnet.
Luckily for you I have tried many different methods to keep my white sneakers looking clean and white throughout the year. So, lets get into it. Here is my favorite method of cleaning my white sneakers.
My Go To Cleaning Choice
There are many different cleaning techniques out there as discussed in our previous post. However, there are not many that give you the ability to put your sneakers into the washing machine.
I always get asked how I keep my white shoes so white. Well, I have spent my hard earned money and tried many of the different cleaning solutions provided by specialist sneaker cleaning manufacturers. But to this day, the one that has worked for me the best is the Reshoevn8r sneaker cleaning kit.
They have a very simple solution which not only allows you to clean the exterior but it will also get rid of that pesky foul foot odor within the shoe.
So this is what I do to get my white shoes looking new again.
Get your dirty shoes out and lets get them looking clean again. So the sneaker I have here are a pair of Adidas NMD R1. They have a primeknit upper with a Boost midsole.
Take a look below to see the cleaning kit Reshoevn8r provide you. If you do end up purchasing this specific cleaning kit then you will get two adjustable shoe trees, a washing bag, a liquid cleaning solution (which I have ran out of) and 1 cleaning brush.
I have two cleaning brushes which I use from the Jason Markk cleaning collection as I find that they work far better than the one that is provided by Reshoevn8r (in their laundry system cleaning kit). I have also used the liquid cleaning solution from Jason Markk which again came in the Jason Markk cleaning kit.
The lighter brush is ideal for tougher materials like leather and soles (midsole and outsole). The darker brush has softer bristles which make it perfect for cleaning uppers that are made of softer materials like primeknit or flyknit or even leather and superficial small marks on the midsole.
This is where I added the adjustable shoe trees into the shoes so that they hold shape when I clean them. As they have a soft knitted upper which will fold a lot when trying to scrub away at the tougher stains. They are also great for giving your shoes the firm shape they had when they first came out of the box.
As I am using the Jason Markk cleaning solution (you can use another brands), I got myself a small container and filled it with luke warm water. I then dipped my soft brush into the container and sprinkle a few drops of the cleaning solution on to the brush. Then once again quickly dip the brush into the water container and began to scrub down the midsole.
You want the solution to foam up on to your shoe, as this will let you know that the cleaning process has begun. If it has not foamed up then go ahead and add some more cleaning solution and water to help.
A light scrub going all around the midsole and outsole will help get rid of any small marks. I then did the same with the darker brush with softer bristles on the upper of the sneakers. Then wipe down with a small towel, if the dirt mark still appears then repeat the process a few times till its gone.
This is where we place the sneakers into the laundry bag and wrap them around in a towel. So that they are ready for the washing machine. You can remove the laces, however my laces were already pretty clean so I left them in the sneakers. I placed the sneakers in one by one with the sole of one sneaker touching the sole of the other.
You want to wrap the shoes around in a towel just to further protect the upper and soles of your shoes so that they don’t get damaged in the washing cylinder. Then place the bag and towel into the washing machine.
Here I added some usual washing liquid cleaner into the washing machine tray(but you don’t need to as the shoe will at this point be soaked in the sneaker cleaning solution) and set it to the coldest wash available on the washing machine. Which in this case was 30 degrees X 30 minutes. Once you have set the washing machine up press start.
Once the machine load is complete, take the sneaker laundry bag out. Hang the towel to dry and remove your sneakers from the bag and let them air dry. Leave the shoe trees inside the sneakers.
But whatever you do.
DO NOT PLACE THEM ON A HEATER OR ANYWHERE NEAR UNNATURAL HEAT.
They will lose shape and get ruined, let them dry naturally.
Enjoy your new fresh smelling clean bright white shoes.
I always get people asking me how I keep my sneakers so white and clean. Now you have it.
This is my method of cleaning my white sneakers, I do it every few weeks when I feel as though the shoe is losing its wow factor and also when they start to smell. I have tried many different methods but this is the best way I have come across.
I hope my tips will help you in keeping your shoes white forever and always. So you can rock up in those white sneakers you’ve had for years and have them looking like they just came out the box.
