Further Questions

What to Look For in The Best Indoor Soccer Shoes?

Soccer Shoe

Choosing an indoor soccer shoe is not too complicated. First, you need to decide on which part of your game you want to improve on. Are you looking for a shoe to help you run faster? Do you need a shoe to help you pass the ball around better? Are you a striker or a defender? Or are you looking for a shoe to allow you to show your skills off like Ronaldo or Messi?

Answering these simple questions can help you understand what exactly your requirements are. Which will allow you to narrow down the choices you need for your next soccer game. As the highly technical surface of indoor soccer requires special attention to the main areas of the shoes.

Outsole

The outsole is one of the most interesting parts when looking at an indoor soccer shoe. As these shoes should keep you from slipping and sliding when running up and down with the ball.

Soccer Shoe Outsole

These shoes tend to have a full rubber profile. Giving you the user better grip and traction on these fast surfaces. But the rubber also needs to be of high quality as you don’t want your outsoles to break off or wear quickly. So, manufacturers use thick blown rubber or a molded outsole to give the soccer player ultimate grip throughout. As we all know very well, it’s the outsole that usually wears out the quickest.

This is one of the most important parts in a soccer shoe as it provides grip. This will help with the acceleration, turns, runs, and stability throughout the game. Manufacturers are starting to use better materials to give a better low profile high traction highly durable shoe. The grip patterns on the bottom of the outsole is what keeps us from slipping and sliding too much. Allowing to swiftly move around the pitch.

Midsole

The thin midsole of the indoor soccer shoes is different to what you see on a casual walking shoe or a running shoe. This is why you should pay attention when buying a pair.

Soccer Shoe Midsole

As you will need something comfortable on your foot so you can keep moving through your training and matches. The midsole provides lateral support throughout the shoe, which ensures you get the cushioning on every foot strike. So, whether you are running in a straight line or dribbling around players, the midsole helps with your agility.

EVA cushioning is a good place to start when looking for improved overall comfort. However, thick midsoles prevent you from having the fast responsiveness you need when playing.  As indoor soccer shoes have very limited midsole cushioning due to their very low profile. You can purchase accessories like insoles and the Ortholite insoles to suit your foot better.

Upper

The upper of the shoes is often thin. This is due to the fact that indoor soccer players need to feel the ball. As the speed of the game is increased due to the smaller sized pitches, touches within the game are far more crucial and intricate.

Soccer Shoe Upper

So, this is why so many manufacturers offer thin upper padding. In addition, this area of the shoe is one of the most crucial areas when it comes to better agility. A solution which is made for indoor soccer needs to allow your feet to move naturally for the best agility. Allowing you to move flawlessly throughout the game with or without the ball.

Manufacturers would use the basic materials such as leather (calf and goat), plastic. But now as improvements are constantly being made, we now have materials such as synthetic leather, mesh, sock-like materials Primeknit (Adidas), Flyknit (Nike). There will always be new different materials manufacturers will try and use to benefit the players.

We are in a time where we have a lot of choices so if you’re looking for a lightweight shoe then you would go for a shoe with sock-like materials. But if you need something sturdy that is tough on the exterior then buy a synthetic leather shoe. Materials are what makes a shoe.

Fit

All the shoes you buy should fit you perfectly and its the same with these. You will know when you have the perfect fitting shoe as it will keep your foot stable without restricting the full motion of the foot. The foot is the most important part in the game of soccer. So you need a shoe that fits you well, to unleash your inner soccer player.

A shoe that is too tight can cause discomfort and will hinder your passing running and shooting qualities. It will just tire you out quicker than it should as you will be putting more effort and concentrating far too much. It could also lead to your toes bruising and squashed toes.

If the shoes are too loose you could end up losing your shoe when you kick the ball and potentially end up hurting another player. This is just not ideal. It could even lead to you twisting your ankle or slipping, tripping, sliding and potentially really aggravating your ankle.

When playing soccer you need your shoe to be tightly fit but not too tight that your toes get squeezed together and get uncomfortable. You don’t need a shoe to be so tight that your toes push up against the toe box area because believe me. It will just make striking and passing the ball that much more painful.

So make sure there is around a quarter of an inch in the shoe when you do try a pair. The last thing you want is unnecessary pain especially when you want to be playing again.

You should check if you have a wide or narrow foot so that you can choose a shoe that would be ideal for your foot type. If you do try them on before you buy them then do make sure to try them with socks you will be using when playing. As your feet will swell up throughout the day and the game.

Innovation

There is always room for innovation with indoor soccer shoes. While big brands adapt their indoor shoes from their outdoor versions, it is tougher for smaller companies to keep up with producing new innovative shoes.

Soccer Shoes

Some of the latest designs such as the new Adidas iterations come with impressive new technologies which seemed almost impossible a few years back. One of the main improvements we see now making its way from regular soccer to indoor soccer. Is, the new protection provided around the heel and Achille’s tendon. It is good to see that these innovative designs are being improved for the comfort and the protection of the players.

While innovation is always changing, the game is not. In the end, it doesn’t matter how many technologies are integrated into soccer shoes. If you are not comfortable with them, then your inner Messi cannot be revealed. This is why you need to find shoes to give you the best performance. But don’t forget to take into consideration that you pick a pair to suit your playing style.

Why Can’t I Buy Outdoor Soccer Shoes and Wear Them Indoors?

Well simply put you can and you cant. You can if you are not willing to spend money on two pairs of shoes for soccer. However, it is better to have separate shoes for indoor soccer and for outdoor soccer.

Outdoor Soccer shoes would not be suitable for the indoors. All soccer shoes have studs (which are on the outsole), this is the most important area of the shoe when we take a look at the traction. All the players require complete traction throughout their soles so that they can run around with stability and strike the ball. And having an outdoor shoe indoor would give you extra height but it just wouldn’t work as well.

Outdoor soccer shoes tend to have metal or molded studs, which are ideal for tackling soft grounds (dry/ wet grass surfaces) and hard grounds. They allow the player to have a firm standing on the outdoor ground. The indoor surfaces are completely different as they tend to be made up of artificial turf. So the grip you would need is completely different to the demanding needs of the indoors.

These would just not work in an indoor environment.

Using these shoes indoors would not benefit your game in any way. Because when you are playing on a grass field, the traction required is completely different. On an indoor soccer pitch, you have a low profile outsole to help you deal with the indoor surface.

If you were to wear an outdoor soccer shoe inside you would tend to slip and slide. Meaning you would not be able to play at your best. As your acceleration, agility, stability, and passes will all be off.

Indoor soccer shoes have a low profile studs which give the player better grip on indoor turfs. They have been designed and created to deal with the needs of indoor surfaces. So, they will give you the ultimate traction needed on an indoor pitch. It’s not ideal even if you do try to wear indoor soccer shoe outside because you will not be able to play the way you like and have to be far more careful with each step you take.

So if you can then buy two different pairs.

Are Indoor Soccer Shoes Expensive?

It all depends on what you are looking for as a player. If you are a novice and just want something that is suitable for indoor soccer then, of course, you will be happy and content with playing in the cheaper iterations.

However, if you are a regular player and enjoy playing regularly like I do then you may want to purchase a better pair with the added features. Which will eventually help us improve our game. I tend to spend up to 100 USD for a good overall indoor soccer shoe.

People who want ultimate performance can even go further and spend up to thousands of dollars. Just so they feel like they are a real soccer player. I have never bought these ever and so I cannot vouch for them but I am sure they can help you improve your game.

So know what level you are at and purchase indoor soccer shoes accordingly. Ultimately all that matters is that the shoe fits and it’s comfortable for you to be able to maneuver in.

How Often Will I Have To Buy New Shoes?

Well, this solely depends on you as a player. If you are someone who plays a few hours every week. Then you will have to purchase another pair quicker in comparison to someone who plays once every few weeks.

In my experience, I bought a pair of indoor soccer shoes and they lasted me around a year. But do take into consideration that I am an amateur and only play up to 5 hours a week. So if you are someone who plays far more than I do, then you may need to purchase a pair of new shoes far quicker than I would.

Also, I would recommend that you purchase the Adidas Nemeziz Tango that is shown above. As Adidas are very well known for constantly updating their shoe outsoles whether it’s a casual sneaker or an indoor soccer shoe. In addition, this shoe has a well-designed traction pattern on the bottom of the outsole. This gives the optimum durability you would need and far better than any other indoor soccer shoe as of now.

Luckily for us, manufacturers are coming out with a better durable shoe year on year. So we don’t have to buy indoor soccer shoes every 6 months. So, if we are complete amateurs then one pair should be fine for a while. As a lot of money is being spent by these big manufacturers to constantly create a better product.

So don’t think you can turn up in a pair of casual sneakers and expect to play without slipping and sliding. Because this will happen, sneakers tend to have thicker outsoles and a different tread pattern on the outsole. This is why you should only play in the shoes that are meant for this sport just like you would in any other sport.

Conclusion

It is important for you to know what you are looking for in a soccer shoe. Whether it is speed, comfort, shooting ability, agility or being able to pass the ball around the pitch. This list above has something for everyone.

I hope this selection of shoes helps you choose an indoor soccer shoe that suits you. So choose wisely and let your feet do the talking on the pitch.
